On September 1, 2001, students and faculty celebrated the birth of Argosy University, a new national university. Argosy University originated in the early 1960's and 1970's as the American Schools of Professional Psychology, the Medical Institute of Minnesota and the University of Sarasota.
In an effort to expand program offerings, offer more resources to students and enrich the learning environment at each campus, these three schools merged to form Argosy University. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Argosy University has a long-standing history of academic excellence.
The American Schools of Professional Psychology (ASPP) originated during the early 1970's when a group of professionals with backgrounds in psychology, education and other professional fields, concluded that the preparation of psychological practitioners would be better served by professional schools that emphasized teaching and practical training. Since its foundation, ASPP has experienced dramatic growth with 13 campuses nationwide.
Established in 1961, the Medical Institute of Minnesota (MIM) was originally known as Park Medical Institute, and was founded on the mission of providing skilled allied health care personnel to hospitals and clinics. In 1963, the school officially became the Medical Institute of Minnesota. Since its inception, MIM has continually developed and expanded program offerings consistent with its mission of responding to the emerging needs of the medical community.
Throughout its 30-year history, The University of Sarasota, with three campuses, has structured a practice-oriented program of study designed to meet the educational needs of working professionals while maintaining the highest academic standards. These programs are delivered through an innovative, distance-learning model.
